hrs in a day, overtime and weekend work - double time?

I have my first contract @ £300/day - ok I still need to sign it but it's to start Tuesday and everything is going ok so far.

Because it's a daily rate what does a 'day' mean? I am assuming that it is 8 hours and my contract will state exactly....

What about overtime and weekend work - a friend charges double at weekends....again I would assume this is in the contract...

I've been on day rates for a while now, on various contracts.

They usually will specify (you can negociate that bit b4hand) what you get for weekends (at the moment, it's time and a half for me on Saturdays, double time on Sundays).

Normal day is 7.5 hours. If they want you to work more during the week, either the contract will specify that "overtime is payable after X hours (e.g. 9)", again you can negociate that. Or you can enter into an arranegement with your client like I do at the mo', whereby I work 9 hour days and the client pays for 6 daysevery week, for my 5 Monday-to-Friday 9-hours days. This kind of arrangement usually will not be specified on the contract itself, but it is easy for you to stop working overtime if the client doesn't sign the weekly timesheet as "6 days".
