Contract to perm same client and IR35

Current client of 2 years want me to go perm, I have been operating outside of IR35 on this gig. Would going perm effectively make the last 2 years void and I would be deemed as a hidden employee for that time or does it not matter ?

If it does have the potential to possibly impact my tax status for the last two years I want to make the client aware of this and try and factor in the possible additional tax liability I could incur into the talks about ££.

It's certainly a problem when it's the other way around, but contracting to perm isn't as cut and dried. I'm sure HMRC would attempt to use it in their arguements, but if your working practices were compliant whilst contracting it would be very difficult for them to argue that you were inside.

I've just done it - but it coincided with us going live (and thus project ending) and me moving into a different role totally (from project implementation to support consultant) - so would (attempt) to justify it that way.

I don't really see a problem to be honest if your working practices were contractor like before and are now permie-fied. In fact I have been given company laptop etc. and blacberry which I didn't have before.

Plus my accountant (SJD) reckons that once you have gone permie and are paying full NI again you go off HMS's radar a bit for IR35 investigations.
