Request to see "proof of directorship"

My agency (I won't name just now) have recently requested that I produce a "proof of directorship" form, as part of the client's mandatory screening of contractors.

They directed me to form s288a at companies house, which is for the appointment of a director.

I responded that since I am already the director of my limited company, it is unnecessary to complete this form, and that if they wish to seek confirmation that I am the director of the company, they can view the "Current Appointments Report" which is a current document that you can download from Companies House for a fee of £1.

Has anyone else come across such ridiculous requests for public information?

I've added that if they wish, I can provide this information to them for £50 + VAT.

Also, why do you have to be a director of the company in order to go on a placement? Why can't you just be an employee of it?

Remind the agent that he is an idiot and this information can be viewed by any member of the public at the Co House web site. Offer to give him the 1pound it it helps or do it yourself and send him the screen shot.

That said, you can obtain copies of directorship forms that have been authenticated with the official stamp. Not too sure how this provides any advantage over the above though.

Get whoever is Company Secretary (you? Mrs Cat?) to email them confirmation that X (you) is a Director.
I don't mind, as long as there's a bed beneath the stars that shine. I'll be fine.

For years I have had agencies asking for ltd companies numbers/VAT numbers but never this. I wonder why they would want to know about the directorship- like why does it matter?

I think you are absolutely right in your responses - the £50 + VAT response is best!

In the past months, have noticed agencies asking if I am trading through a ltd company on the very first calls much more - it seems to be an addition to the screening process these days.

They'll be trying to ensure you're not a managed service company. One of the features of most of the old managed service companies were that you were a 100% shareholder but not a director. The management company individuals were directors.

Send him a form s288a. No need to send it to Co House.
