    Recruitment Consultants

What is going on with them at present.

They place adverts with no contact details and when you apply for jobs that you are suited for and have the highest level of qualifications you hear nothing.

    I understand that there are hundreds of applicants for each role but when you have 10 years blue chip experience in the field that they advertising for and you hear nothing then it has got to be one of two things;

    A) The job doesnt exist
    B) They are obviously working with candidates that they have worked with before and favour

The letter here is surely dangerous for said recruitment CO as they might not be supplying the correct level of candidate required by the employer. Trust me I have experienced this from recruiting myself.

    Anybody else have any opinions.

We have all heard the stories that the number of applicants per role is in the hundreds.

Given that do you really think that every one gets looked at carefully? Probably not so it is inevitable that perfectly good candidates are being overlooked, or the baby is being thrown out with the bathwater if you like.

Most humourous non reply for me is when I recently applied for a role working on a system that I wrote the manual for. Didn't even get a call back on that one. (I didn't follow up as I wasn't overly interested in it)

We are not all the same.. what the article was missing what the real motives are for doing this and it is not to have a good database it is purely messuring to see if the market is picking up, it is a terrible way of conducting business in the market place it looks like its the only way. If it makes contractors feel any better the industry has let go over half of the recruitment consultants in the market place but the unfortunate thing about it is the people that have been laid of are the morale people that actually did the job properly and not lie..

But half of IT contractors have been released also,

Does that mean we adopt underhand tactics at the expense of others to ensure we remain in business.....

              I think not

Just "applying" for jobs wont cut it in this environment.

Work the phones and sell, sell, sell.

I have found that when working the phones there is either no reply or voicemail which doesn't get returned when a message is left, or the agent is on another call and will ring back but obviously doesn't.

Is something being missed here ?

What other ways are there of standing out from the crowd, or is it just pot luck of having your CV picked from the list of 100s for each app ?

I tend to call as soon as I have sent the CV and keep calling.
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

                    I preferred version 1!
