US of A (H1-B)

Just about to give up trying to get IT work in UK / Europe / Mid-East.

Does anyone however know if it's worthwhile applying for contracts is USA, which are posted eg on jobserve ? I know there's a potential for a temp H1-B visa, but although some posts may confirm that they won't allow H1-B applicants, I never see any confirming thay will. Would it be another waste of time actually applying for such contracts ?
