SC Question Again - 1st Post

    Hi Guys

I only came across this website today.... been having a good read and I'm real worried about the market conditions....

Ive been contracting for 2.5 years on the same Project.... numerous extensions.... but finally at the END of March 2009 they said goodbye... and thanks. (AOL Broadband)

Since then I decided to get ITIL and PRIINCE2 under my belt if not just to try and assist the CV in the selection process..... lets see eh !

    Anyways that aside...

I have a limited company and I read somewhere on this website that you can apply to the DVA for you to be added as a list x.And then apply through your limited company as an employee to get SC clearance...

Is this true... Am I going mad.......

Appreciate what anyone can tell me on this.

    Cheers

    Jimmy

Give it a try. If it works out, great. And please do let us know how you managed to get it without winning a SC cleared project exclusive for your compnay.
If your company is the best place to work in, for a mere £500 p/d, you can advertise here.

No it's not true and I remember typing that out at least twice in the most recent incarnations of this question so your research has failed somewhat.

For you to be put forwards for the SC or DV vetting process you REQUIRE sponsorship by either a Government Department or a ListX company. ListX is itself confidential (I believe), but I'm sure you can work out some of the likely candidates that are on it.

Whether you have your own Ltd, Partnership, work via an Umbrella or some esoteric tax scheme is irrelevant.

The Sponsor has to pay the DVA for the vetting process so obtaining a role at a Government Department, Quango or ListX company isn't a guarantee that you will be put forwards. If your role won't bring you into contact with Secret or Top Secret marked materiel then SC or DV won't be needed.

            Linky says:

            5. How does my Company become List X?
The term refers to contractors or subcontractors which have been formally placed on List X because they are undertaking work marked CONFIDENTIAL or above "on the Company Premises". List X is not available on request; it has to be "sponsored" by a Contracting Authority (CA).
            Which prompts the next question...

            The CA can be:-

            * An MOD department, probably, but not necessarily, an Integrated Project Team (IPT)
            * An existing List X company acting as Prime Contractor to one or more subcontractors (all subcontractors must be approved by the original CA)
            * Overseas governments and defence contractors
            * NATO (please note that NATO does not accept bids from uncleared companies for classified contracts, so MOD Industrial Security will initiate List X for UK companies subject to evidence of the intention to bid for a specified NATO contract.)
            * A number of other UK Government Departments, such as the Home Office and Foreign & Commonwealth Office, including GCHQ, also have their own List X sites, but MOD contracts account for around 85% of List X
            Summary:

There are a number of key requirements for List X status:-

            * A contract at CONFIDENTIAL or above
            * A requirement either for the work to be done on the contractor’s premises or for protectively marked information to be held on site
            Good lateral thinking though.
