    Had a call the other day...

    AGENT : "Hi it's Ahmed from Hays, (obviously wasn't) Are you interviewing at the moment?"

    ME : "No."

    He hung up.

    FFS!

      Just ask for the agreement to contain a clause that says they will have to pay a penalty of £ XXX if they don't put you forward, if they refuse you know beyond reasonable doubt they are feeding you horse manure and just trying to block you, because otherwise they would have no problem signing with such a clause

      XXX = (30% Monthly rate) X 3
      They wouldn't agree to that even if they were 100% going to put you forward.

      How exactly would you prove it anyway, go phoning client co? Assume Other Agency PLC is telling you the truth "No, client says your CV has not been sent in" etc

        Which is why I don't bother about multiple agents submitting my cv for the same role. If the client wants to see me, they'll call me in for interview. They certainly won't dismiss a good match on the basis that they received the same cv twice. Until such a time when I get confirmation from the client that they have recevied my cv, I'll continue with this approach. The agencies lack transparency, and I have no reason to trust their word.

                I've been a recruiting manager and it made no difference to me. I'd still see the person if they were right for the job and would give the work to the Preferred supplier usually because it worked out cheaper.

                      Many recruiting managers do bin duplicate CV's. The reason being that two agencies would then claim they had "ownership" of the candidate and ultimately if the employer then enters in to a contract with one agency the unsuccesful agency would claim they had breached terms and conditions by employing said contractor through another agency.

                      The only way a recruiting manager can avoid this legal action is to bin the CV.

                      Signing exclusivity with an agency is not a bad idea, firstly ask around the role a little bit more and test its legitimacy. (Often you can tell by the vagueness of the recruiter) and ensure they are a "reputable agency".

                      Often if you google the job title you will find an advert from the consultant, although an advert does not prove the job role is real these days it does hold more weight as posting "ghost" ads is illegal. If you cannot find an advert for the role ask the recruiter why they havent advertised the role...probably because it is false.

                      if it all adds up, sign exclusivity for that one role.

                      I hope this helps.
