    Failed DVA Security Clearance

    Hi,

I've just undergone security vetting (DVA) for the Ministry of Justice which has failed now on 2 occasions. No details of the reason has been provided which means I can't undertake the agreed 6 month contract with them.

Has anyone or know of anyone who this has happened to in past, or have any advice on how I can personally take this forward to establish where a mistake has taken place. This might be a little late for this application but for peace of mind and future contracts I need to get this sorted out.

P.S. I have contacted the DVA who have cross referenced my name and date of birth but this did not show a record of an application which would suggest that possibly another agency has vetted my application. The whole thing is very confusing as I received clearance from Disclosure Scotland 4 weeks ago without any problems.

Any advice would e greatly appreciated.

Have you had any credit issues in the past?

no finance issues, my last contract was with Deutsche Bank and they do a pretty intense financial check on all new employee's/contractors which came back without any problems.

I'm not an expert in this, but could your DV have been affected by interviews with friends and family?

Hmmm - don't be too sure about that. I know someone who got work at Barcap - then failed pre-employment checks at RBS. I appreciate what you are saying, but all these money changers have different criteria it seems.

I have now found out that the DV is being performed internally within the Ministry of Justice, Ive spoken with their security vetting team and apparently all applications are paper based so they could not tell me anything specific for my case but they did advise that if the application had failed it would be confined to the completion of the application itself as the criminal checks would not have been performed at this stage.

The problem I have is not having any direct contact with the ministry itself everything must go through my agency and all i keep getting back is its failed but no-one can provide a reason which doesn't help me at all.

Time to move on and find a new contract. No point crying over spilt contracts.
If your company is the best place to work in, for a mere £500 p/d, you can advertise here.

Hmmm, I just want to find out the problem so it doesnt affect me in the future, I'm not one to leave things to chance as it tends to cause too many problems, cheers all the same

WHS + hope that you did not waste to much time waiting for clearance instead of applying for other contracts.

They can fail it for any reason they want to. Reasons for failure include the following:
                    • Forgot to tell them that you were out of the country at some point.
                    • Friend / Relative that was interviewed said something silly.
                    • You have a dodgy relative somewhere.
                    • You once did something naughty and didn't declare it.
                    • Your name matches the name of somebody dodgy and there is a miniscule chance you could be that person or have contact with that person.
                    • There is a gap in your history that they can't fill in and hence you wont be considered.

There are of course many other reasons as well.....

Time to give up and move on.
