Business name

Hi,

If my limited company name is called X can I set up a second business run by it but trading as another name?

I am thinking of setting up a side line installing home networks and wonder if I can call myself a different trading name for this purpose - one more aimed at the home user - but not have the hassle of forming a new company, etc, etc?

Take a look at the Companies House website as there is some good info on there if I remember correctly.

Yes, but official documents would have to say on them something like "X Ltd, trading as Home Networks R Us". The difficult part will be getting the bank to accept cheques made out to Home Networks R Us - some will, some won't.

Also - consider whether you might be better off with a new company or running as sole trader. As it's a sideline, you'll no doubt be under the VAT threshold, which is important if your customers are Joe Public.
