    Charging referral fee to agent

Has anyone ever charged a referral fee to an agent?

Got an approach for a 75k permie job. Not interested but got a few mates who might be.

No idea what the agent would charge for a finders fee - 10k+. So I'm thinking of suggesting a 2k fee for introducing someone who is interested, and uniquely qualified in a niche field, in the job.

How would you nail that down legally? Get it in writing? Get a contract drawn up?

    Anyone done this before?

You will not get 2k mate.

£500 is the max generally but if they are good and totally suitable for the role you can try and pull it off with them

Not really worth my time and effort for 500 quid.

get it in writing before you reveal the name. They will pay, but only if you formalise the arrangement.

Agencies always say £500 fee, but of course that's crazy. If you asked them to find you somebody for £500 they would laugh at you and rightly so. In my sporadic experience they're good for about 8% first year salary, which leaves them about 22% which is about fair because they've done the harder bit.

£500 is an opening gambit but like everything else everything is negotiable

So what would a typical agent fee for a 75k permie role be. 8%?

Agencies routinely find people through other agencies. How much will Agency A pay Agency B for finding a profitable body? They should pay you the same. Indeed 8% seems reasonable. £500 is taking the piss.
