BCS Is it worth it ?

I am considering joining BCS (British Computer Society)
but would like to hear from others, to find out if its worth it or not.

The Site and brochure claim it offers all sorts of great stuff, networking, training, career advice etc etc.

In reality has anybody really benefitted from being a member of it.

    Cheers

Computing is not an end in itself and being a member of the BCS suggests that you may have an overhealthy interest in computers for their own sake. There is nothing wrong with this interest just keep membership off your CV

Does being a member of cuk suggest an overhealthy interest in contracting?

Only if you mention your (unhealthy) post count level, including LR threads.

No it suggests that you have healthy interest in arguing, being a cynic and not working

Just out of interest DA, are you a member of the BCS?
If your company is the best place to work in, for a mere £500 p/d, you can advertise here.

I guessed not. I'm just concerned by your attitude towards the BCS. I'm not necessarily their biggest fan, but being a member of it is a bonus. Some of the employers have picked up on my membership to the BCS... so at least it is a brownie point in having it. I'm yet to get back involved with the BCS, just have to battle with my health and spare time.

Sorry I do not mean to demean the BCS, all I am giving is a perception that some people have. For positions of management and business analysis, or any other business focussed roles then BCS membership is a no no. I am afraid that there is a stereotypical image that exists of BCS members having beards, jackets with elbow patches and being old.
It is not like having an MBA, or other "useful tools" accreditation. It simply says "I am interested in computers"

BCS and freemasonary are not for CVs
