    looking for first contract

Having worked as a permie for two years since graduating I have decided that I want to consider contracting. I have been doing some research and have activated my cv on the usual job sites and also applied for a couple of contracts this week.

When I used to activate my CV looking for perm employment my phone would never stop ringing. However my phone hasn't rang at all since I posted my CV last night and I am wondering if this is normal? I also realise there could be something wrong with my CV that I am unaware of. The sites I have used are :

    JobServe
    Jobsite
    CW Jobs

I am a .NET Developer, but I am wondering if it will be possible to get a contract with only 2 years experience - maybe I need more?

    Any help/advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

You might want to reformat your cv so it is contractor stylee

and if you're still in your permie job, a lot of agencies will not touch you with a barge pole as your notice period would be too long.

When I've opened up my CV on jobserve, it's taken a couple of days at least for all the calls to start coming in.

I hope you've got a lot of savings.

As a result of the credit crisis I have seen a sharp drop in the number of .NET contracts advertised and the number of calls I get from agents. Rates are dropping and recruitment bans in place. Now is a time to sit tight and ride the storm in my opinion.

Apply for every job you see on the sites that looks slightly relevant, even if you know the job is made up. Basically you need to get as many agencies as possible to see your CV and see your name.

Follow up every application with a direct call to the agent, so make sure they remember you.

Thanks for all the advice so far. I'm not still in my perm job so I guess that is something in my favour. I can also consider Testing roles but last time i did any testing was about 18 months ago. I got an interview for one .net contract role but didn't get the contract. I am thinking if after a few weeks i don't have much luck I will have to go back to looking for perm jobs.

The areas I am looking in are the North West, Staffordshire and the Midlands.

many may consider 2 years not enough.

post your CV here if you are able, people will give constructive criticism.

Agree strongly. Not a good time at the moment. Wait a year or two, get all the training you can and get some solid deliveries behind you. Thats what I would do in your situation but it all depends how you see risk and return.
