Technically (& legally), your employer is your limited company. If references are required from employers, then it should be from your company.
The agent / prospective employer may require testimonials from clients that your company has done work for.
However, references are somewhat limited nowadays as many people giving a reference will restrict it to X worked here for y months. Due to litigation that has occured in the past, many will not state anything outside these parameters in case
a) the ex-employee does not get the job (ex-employee sues) or
b) the ex-employee is not up to the job (new employer sues)
