    Contract Extension

    Hi All,

I've just received news that my contract is going to be extended until July 2009. The current office situation is that they are getting rid of all the permanent staff and keeping a few contractors on to handle the hand over of work to another company. All the permanent staff will be gone by Christmas.

My question is this. Should I hold the company/agency to ransom obtain a hefty rate increase?

    Regards

I'd go for a rate rise. But then I wouldn't over push it. You know the client and the agency. Would they be willing?

as an alternative, could you not try to get some future work with the new company?

in situations like this people often like having a clued-up person or two on a retainer..

could work well, esp if the new company isn't named in your handcuff clause with agency (if there is one)

Very good point. The new company isn't named in my contract so I might speak to their guy here.
