I took a short contract overseas with the potential it would lead to more work with the same client. The role was to provide project support and help them set up a PMO. They agreed I was "over qualified" but were willing to pay a good rate so I agreed.
When I arrived on site it was clear that the client was very unorganised and in chaos - at least with this particular customer. I carried out the tasks specified in my contract and, then started to do some others to help them get more organised. Sadly this is now being abused so I am reverting back to what was in the contract.
Lesson learnt - not a contractors role to be helpful. Better off sticking to the contract.
