    SC renewal only 3 years

Just had mine done but it now only lasts for 3 years, bit of a pain.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

I would love to get SC clearance but haven't had the chance so far. Contracting for a police force at the moment and have been told the security checking goes beyond SC.

It's a bit weird, I got a new SC in April and it was for 5 years, a colleague got his done in Feb and it was for 10 and you've just got yours for 3.
I've no idea why they come through with different durations.

Odds are the Police sponsored clearances include the Counter Terrorist Check which is another layer over SC, a friend who did some contracts for the Prison Service had something much the same.

I read somewhere that the sponser can request the SC clearance last a specified length of time. Suppose it could be as short a 12 weeks of thats the length of the project.

Yes I was told I'd had a Counter Terrorist check done too.

Possible I suppose, but both my colleague and I were working for the same team and submitted our forms via the same security department of a List X company.

Oh dear, looks like someone's not to squeaky clean and the DVA just want to keep an eye on you. A guy I used to work with had a shorter SC because he was an alkie.

Oh and see that little bit of paper you sign called the Official Secrets Act, you've just broken it by posting on here that you have clearance.

I'll check on that, but considering how many people put the fact that they're SC cleared on their CV's it must be a rather widespread offence.

Are you going to grass us up to the DVA?
If your company is the best place to work in, for a mere £500 p/d, you can advertise here.

You're actually not allowed to put what level of clearance you have on a CV that is publicly accessible. You can put Security Cleared and if it's going to an employer who is cleared then you can mention your level of clearance.

Don't forget, the clearance system is there to asses your vulnerability to coercion, not if you're a bad boy. The fact that you're now advertising to someone that you have access to sensitive information makes it more probable that you could be subject to coercion than if you hadn’t advertised it.

How do you know I'm not fulfilling a Security role for a list X company?
