Cross train into Microsoft Dynamics AX?

Mainly because Oracle seem to be saying that all development will now be done in the Oracle Applications Development Environment. That is like starting from scratch for me so I may as well switch products while I have a chance.

I have to believe that there will still be a market for someone with your skills though. There are likely to be plenty of customers migrating from Oracle or P/soft to fusion and having consultants with experience of both worlds is surely what the client would want. I don't know for sure am just speculating

When the time comes to move to Fusion, I reckon customers will seriously consider all options and I expect some defections to SAP and elsewhere.

I am not convinced of that. Given the choice of an upgrade to fusion versus the challenge of starting from scratch and implementing something else I don't foresee as many people going down that route as you imply. I could of course be completely wrong.

I'm not sure huge ERP systems are really the future anyway and smaller companies don't need or want the overhead of a SAP/Oracle implementation, even if they have it hosted by someone else.

The prospect of chasing sme size companies and their attitude towards spend on IT (and hence contractor rates) fills me with horror. I just see that as a step backwards for you and you will likely be continually squeezed on rate. Again that's purely my opinion.

.NET , Sharepoint , Biztalk , Commerce Server Dynamics have some good paying jobs plus some guarantee that the product won't disappear next year.

I am not familiar with Dynamics ( although considering moving into the area ) and the comment it being a poo is not surprising. However with Microsoft you can rest assured that they will eventually get the product somewhere like the case with Sharepoint and others.

Fair enough. I have just been listening to how Great Pains is the next great ERP package for years with the promise of how microsoft never fail. Am still waiting 10 years later.

Actually, that's an excellent point - they don't seem to have made much progress. They should have bought PeopleSoft when they had the chance

It is all going hosted. Exchange , CRM , Sharepoint. ALL I TELL YA. Next version of Dynamics is Online/hosted AFAIR.

The bloke who set up PeopleSoft certainly thinks so - his latest venture is going hosted.
