What are your favourite agencies to deal with?

On they have some customer feedback indicators but I take them with a pinch of salt.

Jobserve.com, primarily because i can easily search for IT Security Contract roles without having to manually filter out the permie jobs.

If your company is the best place to work in, for a mere £500 p/d, you can advertise here.

Most of the agencies I have evr dealt with have been the same bunch of tossers with different name badges. They push you to accept a job, try to screw you on rate and you never/hardly hear from them once on contract unless they are on a fishing trip or expenses jolly to site.
There have been 2 possibly 3 exceptions in my case.

LA International is the possible 3rd. The agent made regular visits to site and made personal contact with all contractors on site. I think her visits were more to keep the client sweet to generate more business btu I will give her the benefit of the doubt.

In-Parallel stayed interested and checked on my well being regularly though I suspect they were trying to up their image with the client as I was a bit of a vanguard for them.

Bramlove are my prefered choice. They have technical understanding. They only contact me for relevant roles. They have cut their own margins to nothing to meet my requirements. They are trying to build business relationships with clients and contractors alike. The agent has visited me at home and taken me out for lunch to discuss what where and when I would like my next role to be and to discuss other things that could allow us all all to do better.
A top agency in my book.
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

Generic and Optimum-IT are my pimps of choice - both of them know what they are doing and do it well. The list of pimps I avoid like the plague is somewhat longer

Definitely NOT ITJobBoard, they spam you mercilessly and you cannot unsubscribe (their email link to unsubscribe does nothing and even emailing them personally does nothing).

On a brighter note, definitely JobServe.

Is one of the avoided pimps Harvey Nash by any chance? I had an interview through them a few years back and they screwed me over big time. Applied for a Security role with one of their clients, did the technical test, didn't make the interview stage.... received a phone call from the client a few days later asking me to bring in some documentation for an interview that I didn't know about. When I gave feedback to the agency about the role, I told them I wasn't suitable for the role... the agent said "You're not good in Security or Server Support... what are you good at then?" (or something along those lines). I should have hung up at that point, but went on to tell them that I was good at Security. I should have told them not to bother calling me again.

Whenever they call me now, I avoid giving much thought to any of the roles they present to me.

On a positive note... I do recommend Barclay Simpson.

Seconded. Tony Love is a top bloke, the only agent I actually enjoyed going to lunch with. They make a point of being a proper agent and not agencyscum like most of the others. If you ever get a call from them, take it seriously, they are top.

Never met Tony. I deal with the Bram half.

I'm looking for work as a programmer in .NET or Telephony technologies (such as IVRs).

Anyone recommend some good agencies that would be good to go through?

Until you establish some sort of track record and build a relationship with a group of agents then I don't see the point of targetting specific agencies. Rather see which ones are advertising the role you want and then get one of them to represent you.
