I've been offered some work but cannot go direct and need an agent, I would like one that doesn't take more than 15%, any ideas?

Get on the phone to 4-5 agencies, and play them off against each other until the cut on offer is reduced to less than 15%. Given that you're the one that made the effort to find the work, they'll be jumping over each other to offer their services.

If you found the gig, no reason they should be on more that 8-10% max in my opinion. As suggested call up a few that normally advertise positions in your field and see what they suggest. Don't give away any details re the gig until you absolutely have to.

Thanks for your advice, guys. I'm not very good at dealing with agents, I'm not even sure I'll take the gig, trying to have some time off.

Thanks, it's something to do with them only wanting to deal with preferred agencies. It's a bit annoying because I did a gig with them before they had this system, this just seems like adding a middle-man for no reason.

I think their margin is something like 3-4% when they don't have to do the upfront legwork.

Also - make sure they don't add a clause into the agency<->client contract that says client cannot engage contractor in future except via their agency. Had to deal with that one before!
