Yup. Deadly serious. One of whom was the outfit that took back peoples cards when they were deemed "high risk". I think you know who they are!

I was quite resistant to filling them out, but I had no choice.

Apart from being a proxy for an identity check, I've wondered what the information would actually tell them.

Anyway, doesn't apply to me anymore so I don't care.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

I stand corrected. Let me just go and get some more credit....

I asked that question as part of the initial "resistance"

The key thing they wanted to find out is if you'd ever been declared bankrupt.

Isn't that like me asking <insert IB, Tesco, etc etc> if any of their staff had ever been declared bankrupt. If yes then so what? It is the company liquidity that should be the issue surely? Or am I completely missing the point?

Personally I can't see the difference either and I'm entirely in agreement with you. But if you're a financial loose cannon, you'll never get past the front gates of these two establishments.

It would probably be understandable for someone in a financial consultancy capacity or something, but finance (or should I say "my finances") had f'all to do with the storage systems I was working on.

On the plus side there was some seriously fit tottie working there.

How would that change anything.? Going bankrupt is a perfectly legal way of dealing with debt that can't be paid. There's nothing criminal about going bankrupt. As long as you have been discharged, I can't see why they would want to know that.

What is more likely is that if one had huge, huge debts then they may think you could be open to a little corruption. I know police applicants and the like are checked for that.

Maybe they think you're dodgy. What is the problem with this. If it applies to all contract renewals, just go with. You do want the work don't you?

                    yeah your probably right.....

anyway i signed the extension and crossed out that clause with note to say it was to be discussed next week.

found out this evening another contractor got an extension without that clause today so as far as i concerned its not needed. Have email'd agent and end client HR for reasons why they want it, how it would discriminate against a contract extension and how they intend to store my private data - that should keep them busy for a bit

as for why i shouldn't just hand it over - the same lot asked for a copy of my car MOT and insurance once for H&S(!) - just ignored that one as it was mid contract. Quite frankly its none of their business, it serves no purpose except to give some permie somewhere a warm feeling that they have chapter and verse on everyone

I had a personal credit check done when I worked at an IB last year. It appears on my credit record.

Never had it done for a public sector gig though...
