Java J2EE contract market

Hi,

It’s my first post, so be considerate.

I am coming out of my current contract in 3 weeks time. So wondering to know how you all feel the contract market for java j2ee. If someone has just found a contract, please do mention how long it took to find that contract.

Stuffed, but I might just be setting my sights too high. Plenty of work if you're willing to commute 90 minutes every morning, hardly any contracts in London.

This is my first contract here but i can tell you the market in general is REALLY REALLY slow and saturated.

there are a lot of headcount freezes and xxxxx like that at the IB's and media doesnt pay nearly as much, so i haven't really looked into them.

I think if you have the domain experience in what they are looking for and are a super developer you will have no trouble, otherwise you may have to start searching pretty hardcore now.

Although I'm not java, I've seen plenty Java gigs in IB (FX/Derivs) going for £500-£600. I doubt you'll have an issue as long as you've got IB.

There seems to be plenty of Java work around at the moment. We'll see what happens to the market this year, but if you want to stay off the bench you may have to travel.

A colleague of mine has just declined to renew his contract. His phone hasn't stopped ringing all week. This is Thames Valley area. I've been headhunted via Linked In more times in the last couple of weeks than in the last 6 months put together. I'd say things were pretty rosy in the J2EE world all things considered.
