I wouldn't worry about it. Not having your P45 for a week or 2 won't prevent you from starting work with another employer.

Thanks guys. I got my final pay slip and filled in their online form to ask for my P45. They called to ask why I was leaving/etc but the only thing that worries is me is that they said it'll take about 10 days to get my P45 sent out. That seems a bit a long. Any idea how long I'm going to have to wait? Thank you.

I was thinking of it. I might get back some of the Tax I've been paying over the last couple of years. Not sure if I'll qualify as my partner works FT.

It's been almost two weeks and nothing yet. Are there any legal limits as to how long they can take before they send me one?

When I was younger people on the Dole were treated as second class citizens, and I decided that it was something I never wanted to do.

I would not go down that route unless I was looking at loosing my home I had been out of work so long....

That's not the only reason. It's always good to have a trackdable history of what you are doing and to have your paper work (I'd rather not having to chase this a couple of months down the line). I'm not sure why it's taking them this long. Most of the details they'd need are on the last pay slip they sent me as far as I can work out.

Also, I'm not sure what's wrong with claiming for something you've already paid for.

Of course if we'd paid less in taxes we'd be more self sufficient and have less of a need for state "handouts”.

BTW as I said I don't expect to qualify for any money (savings/misses works) but if I'm registered I may qualify for help in finding work and I also get to be part of the national stats.

If you are very bored do so. They may have improved their system in the last 15 odd years but my abridged version went like this:-

"I'd like to sign on"
"But, sir, you're a company director, you can't have anything"
"But you can pay my stamp"
"Err, we don't actually have a mechanism to allow us to do that"

Cue umpteen letters and an eventual appeal to a tribunal in Yeovil.

"Well Mr ASB you can't have any dole because ....."
"But, Mr Chairman I'm not a complete moron, I do know that. All I want is my bloody stamp"
