When NatWest were taken over by the Royal Bank of Scotland they screwed my wife & I something rotten. Our credit rating is still shot courtesy of their cock-ups.

I could go on for a long, long time about how bad NatWest are.

Natwest took nearly 4 months to open my account and when I went to see them about a pension at one point they were calling me 20 times a day for a period of a week trying to get me to sign up ! The thing is when you call there call centre the staff freely admit there are big problems on the business banking side but nothing was ever done, I can only assume senior management there dont know of the problems as if I were a senior manager there and I did know I would be kicking serious ass. Natwest was the worst customer services experience I have 'ever' had with any organisation.

                  It's Cater Allen for me

My accountant recommended Cater Allen to me (they set-up all the accounts). I've found them excellent and have only had to speak to them once to open up a Tax Reserve account. I don't think their website is as polished as say Lloyds TSB's (I recall that setting up standing orders was a little confusing for a simpleton like me) but it's fully functional for everything that I need to do.

Ensure that you have a branch of Royal Bank of Scotland close by to pay-in otherwise you'll be paying-in using their postal service or paying another bank (including Abbey National I think!) for the privilege.

Remember that you won't get interest on balances less that £5k but I don't expect that will deter us 'wealthy contractors' .

All in all, I'd give them 9/10.

I've had Abbey recommended to me by several contracting friends and use LloydsTSB myself. Main reasons for not using Abbey were
                    a) I have personal accounts with Lloyds so transfers are quicker, and they have history of income of previous years.
                    b) My sister is the business acct mgr at my local Abbey and I don't overly want her knowing my business affairs.

Hey, don't knock it. Do you have any idea how long their internet banking service was "coming soon"?

I just worry about what has happened to all the people at their call-centre, who were all excellent, since the Internet Banking was launched. I have only ever been held in a queue when calling them once, and that was since the internet banking was launched
