    CV File Format

After searching the internet for CV's in my field to get an idea of style, formatting etc I have noticed a fair number that are in PDF or in Word read-only format.

Obviously this is so they cannot be edited but it made me wonder whether this could cause any other issues for agents or recruiters.

Does anyone here do this or come across it?

    Thoughts welcome.

    TIA.

Don't see much point. You can copy/paste the text anyway. I just use .doc format as it is what folk want and I want to make my CV as user friendly as possible.

If they can't edit out your contact details pimps are not going to send the CV on.

Probably. But once (in my younger days) I sent out a few PDF CVs and all the agencies that are interested asked for the MS Word version.

I agree with all the above comments.
Recruiters have to add header sheets to the top of CVs, so they will 99/100 ask you for the Word version of your CV. This is also why you shouldn't use loads of tables and weird formatting - keep it simple.

At one stage, I made mine PDF read-only and non-copyable.

Agents always asked for either a PDF one that they could copy and paste from, or a Word document - "so that we can put it into our format", i.e. remove all your contact details.

I always send out a .doc and a .pdf if and agent specifically requests mine. I have had a couple of instances where pimps cannot open my .doc and they swear blind that my resume is corrupted. I'm 100% sure it's an issue at their end because I have never been able to replicate the problem and loads of agents haven't had an issue. The PDF version enables the muppets who can't work work to see a copy of it in Adobe Reader.

I've had that and I think it can sometimes be a text box issue. ISTR a while back getting loads of kick backs on my cv because there was a text box in it that some virus guard program or other was flagging as potentially malicious.

Could be something along those lines, I don't have any text boxes but I do have tables.

Either way a PDF version usually keeps them happy if they have any problems with the word format one.
