    Renewal Problems

    Quick responses welcome as not sure whether I am supposed to go into work tomorrow

    My contract expired last Friday, although the client has said they'd like to renew me for another 3 months. I'm happy to renew but want my agent to change some of the terms of the contract which I feel are unfair.

    We're still in negotiations about this, and the question is, should I still go in tomorrow or wait till the negotiations are finished. If I do go in, will I be insured? and will I make things difficult interms of the negotiations?

    Basically I have no paperwork in place saying I can go into work tomorrow. And I disagree with the paperwork I had in place last week.

    I work through an umbrella company who class me as an employee.

    No, don't go in. If you do, everyone will have to assume you're accepting the last contract you saw.
    Even that aside, it will send out a signal that the existing terms aren't a showstopper. If you'll work a day under them, why not a month, or six?
    Witholding your services is the best bargaining chip you've got.

      Thanks for the speedy reply. Yes, this is what I thought too. I'm uncomfortable going in with no paperwork in place. My old contract specifically specifies that the appointment is for 3 months with 1 months notice if either party wants to terminate. If I go in tomorrow without anything... everything is just up in the air.

          My issue is the way I get paid. The client pays them weekly (I know because I'm very close to the finances in my role), but they pay me monthly. The day before my payday I can be owed 7 weeks money, and even then I'll only receive 4 of them (Paid half way through the month, for the previous month). They say they use the money to pay other contractors, and apart from the ethical side of things, I'm concerned that if this agent was to go bust, they'd could potentially leave me 7 weeks out of pocket.

          I'm really not happy that they're playing with my money! Paying other contractors, or earning interest? Either way it's not right.
