    Two years - one client.

I've been on back to back short term projects - new contract every time - with the same client for over a year. How does the 'two year' expenses rule work.?

Is it two years with the same client.?

Or is it two years at the same client site.? (I've worked on more than one client site for different projects)

How much of a break between back to back contracts is needed to break the 'two year' rule.? (If one of the above is true)

Its 2 years at one location ... not specific site.

How far apart are the client sites and what were the lengths that you are talking about at each one...e.g. months and time per week.

      2 Years on site

I have been in a similar situation and I was told that it was 2 years on the same site. If you move site the second one had to be a certain distance away (something like 20 miles?) and then the counter was reset.

Two sites - 12 miles apart

        site 1 for 5 months (project 1)
        site 2 for 5 months (project 2)
        site 1 for 2 months (project 3)
site 2 (back at site two for another 3 months)(project 4)

Neither. It's from the moment you find out that you'll be at the same client site for over 2 years.

Nope - it's from the moment you find out that you'll be at the same site (not client site) for over 2 years.

For example, different clients in the same building = same site, therefore once you know the contract will go over 2 years, no more expenses.

Same client, same industrial estate, different building = same site as far as HMRC are concerned. Different client, same industrial estate = same site.

Depends on how HMRC will argue that it's the same location or not - for example, there is a chance that the square mile might be classed as the same location, whereas London docklands and west London probably would not.

            Hope that's clear

For some reason my posts take for ever to appear .....

This is what I wrote before

Two sites - 12 miles apart

              site 1 for 5 months (project 1)
              site 2 for 5 months (project 2)
              site 1 for 2 months (project 3)
site 2 (back at site two for another 3 months)(project 4)
Can each of these 'restart' the clock.?
