LinkedIn Pimps

Can any tell me any advantages of allowing a pimp to be linked in to you? Just seems that they can search through more lists of people and annoy them...

I turn down all requests from pimps to be linked in to me. I do have one pimp in my network, but I sent the request to them as they're damn good at their job as well as honest so thought I'd send some potential commission their way.

That's been my suspicion. Something tells me they take more than they give. But I do know some people who've got contracts through it; some recruiters who say it's the best way of getting quality people because there's less scope for fictional CVs etc., and you can see who's recommending whom; and even heard of a couple of people who get most of their business through it.

Of the umptysquillions of pimps I have dealt with over the past 12 years, I have three in my LinkedIn network.

They have been honest, open, hard working and got me an interview. It has been the interview stage where I have invited them to join my network (as a 'thank you') for being nice and effective.

The advantage is, they owe me a favour.

All the other pimps can go and drown in cold cat sick for all eternity.

Got no pimps on my LinkedIn - if I did though I would hide my contacts list from them as they no doubt would use it to contact potential clients.

It's a bit more like facebook for grown-ups. I refuse all requests from pimps on linkedin out of principle. Even the nice ones.

A professional networking site, as opposed to social networking.

You build up your network based on professional relationships: colleagues from places you have worked, typically.

It has a very good Q & A section for asking business-related questions.

It is VERY useful for researching a company before having an interview there. A couple of times I have pulled up the profile of one of the interview panel and been able to tailor my approach accordingly.

However, I have twice been asked about things I have in my LinkedIn profile so interviewers are using it too (of course!).
