Anyone contracting\contracted for BT (specifically for a role at an IB)?

If so, what are the contracts like for IR35?

It will probably be through an agency & the one I’m aware of currently is Elan, which I don’t believe get great reviews here! However, I’m sure other agencies will be on the PSL.

when I was there Elan were taking over all the contract stuff.

I believe youll be stuck with either Elan or one of their Indian partners Tech Mahindra or Info Tech (i think IT is one)

re IR35 it's more about what you do than what your contract says.

    Good luck woth Skillstream AAAAARRRRRGGGGggggggg!!!

A former colleague just completed a PM role there, not sure which agency it was, but the contract was definitely NOT IR35-freindly, and BT apparently had no interest in making it so.

I've contracted with BT before and had an IR35 friendly contract.

This was through a small agency though who aren't on the PSL anymore.

From what I've heard BT are aiming to put all their Global Services contractors through Elan and all the BT Design contractors through Hays IT. It's also possible to get contracts through their Indian IT partners too - I know people who contract via TechMahindra.

I think it all depends what part of the business you work with - BT is a very big place.

One problem is the huge expense procedure manual that's normally added onto the end of the contract, which contains lots of employment references.

The Tech Mahindra contract is definitely more IR35 friendly than the BT (Global Services) one which I've always regarded as caught.

Thanks for the info. It's an opportunity that may come up, so wanted to see what the score was.

I've got the working practices sorted out fine, but it looks like the contract may be an issue.

I'm with BT now...through ELAN. My contract is definitely outside IR35. Skillstream is good fun but have always been paid on time (which is the main thing).

Can I ask what type of service you are delivering for BT?

I'm a Senior Test Analyst (posh for "tester") in Global Services working on a govt contract. Have a desk, but can work from home (in fact we are encouraged to) and I'm often out working on the BT Client's site up in Scotland also.
