Wouldn't mind a new contract - what would you do?

Just found out that my 3 month contract might be extended for another 3 months (it was due to end at the end of this month). Thing is, I'm not really enjoying it where I am and would love to be working somewhere else.

I know we're coming up to xmas/new year and I know a bird in the hand etc...

So maybe it would be better just to stick it out but I really think I could get a contract that I'm happier in and also pays more (I'm fairly new to all this but am starting to realise that I'm not on quite as much as should be).

So - would you stick at a contract that you're not happy in and not earning as much as you could but at least gives you security to april.

    Or

Go for something new paying more and hopefully offereing a more enjoyable environment

    ?

    Thanks.

I'm doing the first of those 2.

Was meant to stay till 21st December.

They have said I can "stay as long as I want - 1 weeks notice".

Starting to get too much like a permie job as the project is finished and they are starting to find "fillers".

Will stick it out past Christmas. The client are treating it as one week running so I doubt they will be unhappy should I leave before the 3 months I told the agy I would do are up.

Starting to look in the middle of Jan. Been tempted by a contract in Sudan. A charity is looking for logistics guys to head over there. Its only £53 a day rate though...but might be what I am looking for.

At least I'll still be on more than AtW.

I'd go with whatever makes you happiest. If there is work out there for you to go and do on another contract, and you think it might be better than where you are, then go do that instead.

Unless the contract is absolutely dire, then I wouldn't give notice. But when the contract is up for renewal, I would always look around, particularly if I wasn't happy in the job.

Toss a coin. Seriously. You only live once. I know other people as well as me who do this.

I agree. You can make a good case for either course of action, and you could easily end up regretting whichever of those that you take.

Trying to think it through is not going to help.

I wouldnt leave, if you are new to contracting I would just stay settled till early next year and then you will have a nice settled record of your contracting start, and a bit more dosh for a rainy day.

3 Months isnt long and the market will be much better in Feb/March than Dec.

Are you prepared to have a break if you don't find something to go to?

If you need the money / want to work, then don't leave your existing contract until you have something definite to go to. If you aren't that fussed, and aren't happy, then you may as well go when the contract is up.
