Just wanted to check something....

I've been offered an extension to my current gig, which after some haggling over length and duration (wanted more dosh and less duration) I've accepted.

This is the first extension I've had since operating via a Ltd Co. Previously I used an umbrella so never saw contracts etc.

My question is this:

I've received an extension confirmation letter from the agency giving the new start/finish dates and rate and stating that it is a revision of the previous agreement (their words) and all other terms remain as before. Is this OK? I was expecting to receive another full contract with the new dates and rate.

Written confirmation of new rate and dates should be fine as an amendment to an existing contract.

Not saying if this is right or wrong, but my extensions have always resulted in a new document being created. The only difference between each one is the new term and recently a new increased daily rate .

Yes, that's what I was expecting really... the extension letter is also addressed direct to me rather than my company. I had quite a fight first time around to get a proper project-based contract so I'm being wary that the agency are not falling back into their old ways.

That does change things a bit, I would ask for a letter addressed to your company.
However personally I would be fine with a letter being issued as an 'amendment to a contract', as long as it is addressed to the company. That is how I have worked with our current client for the last couple of years.

Many agencies will issue a contract with a separate schedule, where they specify the dates and rate.

As long as you have something that confirms that this is an extension of the existing schedule or contract, plus the rate and dates, you should be fine.
