If they play games with you....turn the tables on them.

Say to them "Well, yeah, there are a couple of roles going at XYZ. Hasn't been sent to agencies yet, but I heard it from a mate who works there. They are in the process of trying to sort out an agency I think. "

XYZ = A real but unconnected company.

They waste your time, you waste theirs.

Perhaps if enough people bash the agencies, they'll clear up their acts and stop the deceit and lies.

Not sure if you are just all being a bit cynical, they need ot ask questions as they are not really IT professionals, they get most of their information from us but that helps them place us (hopefully) I try and be helpful but without giving too much specific info out.

If some agent (and it has happened a few times) asks me to explain what a technology is and they are polite, I will. If they are obviously fishing then I will tell them where to go if they are rude, or politely direct them to HR ladies on maternity leave.
