Managing Director and Director - is there a difference and what do you put on your business cards / email sigs?

I don't put down the fact that I'm a director on my business card, I just use my core skill - it's more relevant.

      Aye.

Talking to some people a while ago at the project launch party and it was concluded that job titles on business cards are old hat.

Not really - for example you could have:

Sockpuppet - Executive Long Haul Specialist

        Sockpuppet - Director of Haulage

Sockpuppet - Vice President, Trucking Division

think of the respect you'll get from the girlies...

I don't put a title in email or on a business card.

Some letters I sign as "Managing Director" or "Technical Director" or with not title, depending on the audience and the subject.

My business cards are blank. Has this caused my recent ill fortune?

I think Director is the legally official one ... The others (MD, Executive Director etc) are dependent on the company structure ... If you are a typical one-man band contractor, doesn't really matter ....

What your business card/ says, should depend on the receipient ... To clients, agents and my network, my card mentions '<myskill> consultant' .. For other places, like banks, insurance etc, I use my 'Director' card ...

                    I'm a Director.

Because that's what my company documents say I am.

                    Nothing more
                    Nothing less.
