Senior PM Roles - 9 years Exp (Australia)

    Hi All,
I have been considering the move from Melbourne Aus to London for some time ( I am a NZ / British Citizen, and know London well). I have 9 years PM experience, 6 at a senior level, across a variety of industry sectors in Australia, but I do not have investment banking exp, due to the small presence here. I have been checking on Job Serve and am seeing a wide range of day rates, and very specific background and skill sets that the recruiters are looking for. I am noticing recruiters stating not to apply without exact experience as stated in the ad. This reads to me like an employer's market at the moment - ie clients can be selective. I am noticing significant rate differences between investment banking PM roles and the rest. My questions to the forum are; what are your experiences in PM/Senior PM contracting in London currently; are my assumptions above correct? My estimation of market rates for these roles seems to be 450-550 per day - would you agree with this? Any other comments or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all, Mike

Wow, that's a strong response! First up, I am not an Aussie, I am a Brit. Secondly, you vote for the Govt. that creates immigration policy - perhaps you need to insure your vote counts in future ? By the way, some of my best friends here in Oz are Brits on favourable tax concessions (living away from home allowance) that allows them hike up the price of Sydney / Melbourne housing to London levels due to the pound and the tax break.....It works both ways I suggest..................... Again, some helpful advice would be appreciated.

Don't really know about the PM market, but when it comes to development, they will be very specific even if it's a sellers market, since they usually need you to jump right in and start working right away. They won't invest _any_ money in a contractor.

Don't mind the little green meanies, they're usually not even contractors.

I didn't vote for em. Democracy has long since failed in this country. Anyone know how to build a nuclear bomb?

Why do you want to come here? Its a dreadful country. You should stay where you are...

Actually most Antipodeans these days seem to be whiney... the climates too wet...London's too expensive... too many Eastern Europeans taking our jobs pulling pints etc. etc. whiney whiney.
Why do you bother coming at all?
