Current market rate in London for a Senior Java J2EE dev (not including investment banking) is around £400-450 a day, with it being closer to 400 than 450.

There are the occasional roles out there for around £500, but they're aren't that many of those out there at the moment.

I reckon it's more like £450 - £500. Personally I wouldn't take less than £450 in the current market. Any less and the difference is going to the agent...

          He still hunting,
and i guess the reason for that is that i am turning down anything less than 500. Have 3 interviews this week
          1) 600 pday (bit out side london)
          2) 550 pday in the wharf
          3) 500 pday in center

Im really holding out for the moment to try and get 500 or above, i know its my first contract but dont want to settle for someting i not happy with. As a permie here i have plenty of time to hold on and wait for the right opportunity to come around.

I also targetting investment banking to see can i break into that.

Investment banking/financial has the high rates, the rest don't.

You'll get the occasional one come along at £500 a day, but most are lower.

Tech Lead or Arch pays the £500+ but for a generic Java/J2EE senior dev it's £400-450.

If you're getting more, good on you, but that's the general rates out there at the moment.

It's also Summer, rates go down until everyone is back at work again.

              Hey Guys,

Well i just got a call there, and have been offered the contract that sits out side london a bit at 600 p/d

Set up my limited company two weeks ago, next step will be to seek the advice of an accountant etc to check for IR35.

Also should i be registering for VAT now too!

Register for VAT now and in 6/8 months time you might have your number
