    Renting and registered company address

    Hi,

I am selling my home which is currently my registered company address and moving into a rented house - is it possible for me to register my rented accomodation as the new company address or do I need to use a third party such as, perhaps, an accountant's address?

    Thanks for any info,

Why on earth would it not be possible?

It may be in the lease - it was in my lease when I last rented - something like "The tenant is not permitted to register a company at this address" - something fairly explicit like that.

Some rental agreements forbid the use of the property for business, however the general concensus seems to be that this is to try and prevent turning the house into a factory or something - you'd probably get away with running a PSC...

Thanks all - is this the kind of service that my accountant might also do? Haven't enquired yet but last year, when my Mum passed on, my accountants became the company secretary as it was a service they offered for about £60 per year. Is anyone here doing this?

Shoot, it's still possible, which is what the OP asked. Anyway, more likely it forbids "running a business at this address", but the landlord will neither know or be able to prove anything about that, and Co House won't care.

I use my accountants as myco's registered office - it's just easier. I think I might be wary about having an accountant as CoSec in the light of the MSC rules. I wait for someone who knows to contradict me though...

It is true that some leases say you can't register a company. Mine does, and I just ignored it. As has been mentioned earlier this is just so you don't start a business reconditioning motors in your front garden and I doubt any landlord will care about a PSC.

I would suggest using your accountant as registered address and your own address as a correspondance address.

Lets face it the accountants are less likely to move than you are and in rented accomodation it is quite likely you could move every year. Save time money and effort by putting your accountants as registered address.
