I found these forums by searching google for 'Have Prosperity4 gone into administration?' as we heard a rumour on payroll morning (I'm a timesheet entering monkey for a 'staffing solutions' company).

Cue mad frantic shuttling back and forth between Legal and Payroll to decide if we should go ahead and send money to P4 or just direct to the contractor's accounts, as we weren't sure of the situation at P4 and didn't know if they'd pay their contractors or not.

I really hope you guys all get your held funds and that back, I've never been a contractor but the thought of not getting paid for work you've done is horrible

              Hmmmm.
Giant screwed up two months payments in the first 15 I was with them and failed even to offer compensation the second time. They had suspended my account without telling me, so the first time I heard about it was when I did not get paid. On top of which I had about 6 different relationship managers in the same period. When I complained to the MD they promised to make changes to the account, assign a senior guy to me etc, which were not executed so I left.

Anyone can loook good when it goes right. Its how you are treated when it goes wrong that marks out the good ones.

Umbrellas just add an extra layer of frustration between you and your money.

                That's your money.

I don't know why anybody bothers with them personally...

We’re given little to no time for proper analysis and design, and, when we ask management about hiring professional testers and setting up a QA process—well, I’ve seen deer in my headlights look less stunned

I am with Parasol - not bad, but getting a bit too pricey for the twiddle-all that they actually do.

                    Anyway...

I am with an umbrella as I work for the same Co. that I worked for as a Permie - was advised (and I think wisely) by a contractor that Permie-to-Whore with same Employer/Client is a big fat "Come and get me!" sign for Hector, and his evil trolls. Next gig will be Ltd. ... a no-brainer. I do get tearful when I think of the loot I've given away, to be spent on <fill-in-the-blank>.

Contracting long term I can't see why anyone would stick with an umbrella, however there are those who may use one either initially to get started, or because the contract is going to be a one off and they don't want the hassle of setting up a company only to have to close it down again soon after.
