honesty to agents

morning all,

ok i have a question: how honest should i be to agents when they ask me do i have any interviews lined up. Do i tell them i have when i havent, do i tell them i havent when i have???

Different people have advised me different things so ur input will help.

Don't let them think you have nothing else. Lie, but be vague, and definitely don't give them any details.

Remember that agents are almost certainly lying to you; you shouldn't feel guilty about doing the same.

If you have an interview it is worth letting them know IMHO, but don't give them any details. Nothing more annoying than telling them you have nothing planned and are up for thier contract then calling them the morning of the interview and saying oh I have a new gig you can stick your interview when the sun doesn't shine.

It's a fishing exercise. If someone is interviewing they have vacancies to fill and pimps will push for detail so they can phone up and trawl.

Whether or not you've got interviews lined up has feck all to do with them. Whenever, I get asked that quetion, I simply reply by asking what they have by way of a proposed contract. Some will take the hint that you're not answering their original question, and swiftly cut to the chase.

Others will repeat their original question. So I repeat my reply until they get the hint.

It is a good question. You dont want the agent to think that you have nothing else on the boil (they will assume you are cheap or not very good).
You need to play them, tell them that the job they have is the most interesting one of the lot, be non specific in telling them where you are going to for other interviews or lie to them (it is not really any of their business, and they fishing for leads). No harm in making up the odd interview.
