    Maternity pay

I am a contractor and my wife is going on maternity leave next month.. in the maternity forms it has asked for my details. should i just put my basic salary which i have declared?

also when claiming child benefit, they take into account partners salary, again do i declare just the basics...?

i always have this rubbish feeling that im doing something illegal when it comes to declaring salaries..

Mum claims child benefit (so she can earn years towards state pension). It is not means tested. My wife gets it, I have never filled any forms or declared any income.

I don't see why they need you details for her maternity pay. State maternity is not means tested and I don't see why an employer's would be. Who is going to pay the maternity pay?

Same as my wife then. Your salary doesn't come into it. She just claims direct herself. At least that's what we did and we had no problems.

Damn ! Just worked out too late how I could of got a second lot of SMP ( or whichever one it is !? ) by employing the Mrs as Secretary and paying her a wage for the last year while she was a fulltime mother.

I don't remember putting any of my deets on the forms a couple of years ago.

                  Um,

Why does it mean that she will have to leave her workplace?

When your missus goes back to work, you can also run a Childcare Voucher scheme through your limited to put towards the cost of your childcare.

£55 per week or £243 per month paid out of your limited which is exempt from Employee / Employers NI, and Income Tax.
