Wait for background checks to come through before handing in notice?

    So you don't know what kind of background check they will do, and you don't know if the offence will show up.

    My advise: be honest. Tell them about your concern, and ask them if it is relevant for them. Even if a background check shows some unpleasant results, it is just informative. They could decide that they don't mind - and if they're just following some regulations that requires them to check your background, the laws may not forbid you to work for them. Not all crimes are the same, and time elapsed may also be another variable.

    If it is relevant, they will find out anyway. You will not harm yourself.

    If it is not relevant, they will probably appreciate your honesty and hire you.

      If it was a fight, you'll be fine, anything financial (fraud, theft, etc.) may be an issue.
