So what would the plan be in that case? ... go perm for about 6 months then try contract again?

      Edit: Thanks lol

You would need to go permanent for 2 years plus - not necessarily in the same company.

Remember you are competing with people with 10+ years of experience.

6 months? You really need to understand what you do better I.e contracting.

Hmmm there are "junior" lower rates. Would that not be possible? Especially if skills are transferrable. I've read some descriptions that require to have once had a dev background or been a dev.

The issue is that I have experience in the field however my previous job titles weren't dedicated to those roles. Had to find a recruiter that would put you forward...looks like I might have to move to a perm role or even not so senior.
Just change your job title on your CV. The CV gets an interview, not the job so gearing it towards the job you want won't hurt.

Worst case - You don't get the job because you over egged your experience
Best case - You get the job

Not really. Junior people will get junior work. It will then be on your CV to see and you will struggle grow up the chain.

Many different people will also be going for these gigs that are experienced due to convenience and a raft of other 'junior' people wanting to get in to contracting. It's going to be nigh on impossible to keep end to end gigs in that market.

Worst case - You don't get the job because you over egged your experience and end up on the bench for months and months waiting for a lucky break.

Unfortunately, there's no fast track to these things - getting lucky with your first contract is one thing; getting a second and third is something else. Given the choice, would you put your mission critical project in hands of a new project manager or a seasoned professional with a track record of delivery?

What happens when the reference comes back from the previous client with a different title to the one you said that you were doing?
