You just have to watch the generalisations.

People should be encouraged to negotiate more, IMO.

If you are confident / happy that's the main thing.

I actually saw 2 people get burned for 2 months money on my very first contract.
Agreed, maybe they shouldn't have worked the 2nd month, but burned nonetheless.

I have worked through a number of agencies and direct during that time.

We all know that payment terms vary from 1 week to 4 weeks to 30 days depending on who the client and agency are. Everyone can cite a different payment term so no point saying "I get paid every x weeks and I get paid every y weeks".

Going back to the original posting, before turning this thread into the Itjobs clinic, when setting out on a recruitment offering, being able to cover up front funds during the very initial period is a hurdle that would need to be overcome - the key is in being able to bring in the fees from the client first, before having to pay out to the contractor.

Tell me that you didn't go through mandatory holidays. After all you are in IB. You must be the CEO of HSBC if you didn't

This year will be the first year, 2 week furlough at Christmas, although I haven't actually being asked yet.

I was always exempted before. TBF, I would have preferred the time off.

IBs have been implemented this since long. Funny that you are encountering this for the first time. Everyone prefers time off. The point here is you might be one the top paid, who can get their way kind of professional. That does not mean every one get their way and you are unaware of the norm in the industry which you consider as a generalization.

The solution I am proposing is for normal people who are working as contractors. If you a doubt about payment terms, why can't we run a poll?

But...........there is no norm, as you have already said.

I know 10's of contractors that work for IBs, a lot of whom are paid weekly.

Would you like to run a poll and find out? This might help you get in touch with reality (unless of course you are related to Royality).

Can we not just let this point lie ?? More so as it is detracting from the original discussion point, more so as it was my original discussion point, and so is starting to p&ss me off a tad.
