If it's a means to an end, do it. I've always taken LinkedIn recommendations with a pinch of salt, especially when I've read some of the recommendations for certain people

      So just like references, then?

It is unlikely to do any harm so I give them and stick them on when I receive them.

Same here but it's a bloody great tool to spot chances and liars. The number of times I've seen a CV in the last few years that are written to the role spec but LinkedIn has shown it's a complete bag of lies is staggering.

Maybe they altered their LinkedIn profile so they wouldn;t have to work with you.

Oh, and answer your PM, I'm trying to get you a reference fee.

Never used it myself....I actually like the responses I get..."I couldn't find you anywhere on LinkedIn, I must have spelt your name wrong".

The longer answer is yes. If they are from someone 'credible', exactly the same as references. If your mate Terry Tibbs says you did a cracking job for you at Fred in a Shed Ltd then it's useless. If the VP / CEO / CSO etc of a Global / Large National companies recommends you then it carries weight. The only people that think it doesn't are those that have "Terry's" on their profile.

Just got this from a pimp I don't know from Adam

"Hey, What skills do you want to be endorsed for? I’m going around endorsing people for what skills they want highlighted. It helps you with the job search, believe it or not, as HR reps look for these skill sets on LinkedIn. So figure it makes sense for everyone to help each other.
If you get a sec, could you in turn endorse my profile for ONLY these 5 skills: - Recruiting - Java - Customer Service - Technical Recruiting - Software Development
Trying to boost these babies to the top. Let me know what you need to be endorsed for."

                      Jesus wept...
