Depends which part of Financial Services we are talking about. If you're on a project related to compliance or new regulations, your job is relatively secure. Some things have to get done.

Similarly, if you are working in infrastructure, DevOps, you are safe. Someone has to keep the servers running.

Not my sector but sounds like reasonable analysis.

IMO it's not the sector it's the skills.

Testing is a commodity skill and hence loads of Bob's for it to be outsourced too

Development again is a commodity unless you move into a niche

You have to specialise and differentiate to survive

It's the sector, skills and location at the moment.

It is always these factors generally, not one or other ahead of the others.

UK economy grows by 0.3% as service sector slows - BBC News
Only confirms what many UK IT contractors already know sharp slowdown in services industry I think it started early Q3 16 but took time to filter through to the mainstream and or allow for massaged upside figures from UK PLC

                    Not all doom and gloom

"Barclays also said it would be creating 2,000 technology jobs to “draw upon the talent pool” in the UK. Half of those have already been filled, with the rest being hired in the coming three years"

Only because they axed a similar number in the last few years! They went too far on sending IT jobs to Poland now they have to bring some back to UK. But a lot of these will be outsourced via HP so not proper perm UK Jobs anyway.
