I agree that many people won't or can't sit down and run the numbers objectively. Most people in financial distress wouldn't be able to tell you how bad it is, just that it is bad, many don't even open their letters because they know it is a bill.Comment

In reality as bad as the market is, we are all very fortunate with where we live.
Always be grateful as we could always be much worse off.

Nationwide has told the 13,000 staff it had said would not be forced to return to the office when Covid lockdowns ended that they must start coming in from early next year for at least two days a week for most.
By my count Santander and HSBC are the only ones of the main banks to not have announced significant job cuts.Comment

This seems to be a common trend, and many see it as a way to force resignations in lieu of doing redundancies. Although I think Nationwide might fall foul of customs and practices. They publicly announced the full WFH 2.5 years ago and have waved it around to their advantage every chance they got.Comment

Seen this today, even without Scala, devops + SC should be enough to land something. Strange, but you have no idea how he comes through in interviews, also it seems the market is dead for devops now, so the SC probably doesn't make much of a difference.
On the other hand, half or more of his post might simply be a lie, I mean there's some proper mental people in tech, so don't believe everything you see...Comment
