      Bollocks.
WFH provides flexibility and if you’re not capable of providing value without being a bum on a seat the problem is closer to home.

Put it like this. Without home working I wouldn’t be in the Yorkshire dales, with my family for half term, and still earned £300 before a long lazy liquid lunch.

Indeed. Rinse and reset ad infinitum.

So far Wfh has allowed me to tap into regions of the UK I never would have considered before.

Is your market really overrun by offshore workers or is demand just depressed like the rest of the economy is?

Yes that's exactly my point. There's people here saying banking has never allowed wfh but what they mean is that clients they've worked with haven't.

And, of course, that kind of consulting is its own bubble too!
Not just the City or contracting but life in general. We all live in our own echo chamber amplified by social media.

Relatively few contractors or employees have worked in more than two or three sectors. I've worked in over a dozen during the last 30 years and every time I work in a new one for the first time, it invariably isn't quite what I expected.

Companies within an industry sector can vary a lot and of course there can be regional differences. My short experience in banking outside of London didn't really fit what I hear about the London scene for example.

I’ve worked for 10 different banking clients Glasgow and London - none allowed WFH

I have worked with major banking client clients in and out of UK. Almost all of them were happy with one day WFH. Only one of them didn't allow as I was working in the trading floor where you can't even have your own laptop on the desk and should go to a specific place to attend personal calls which is understandable. I quit that one role within a month though.

That probably just says more about your clients' opinion of you...

My last stint at Barclays was 100% WFH and I only went to the Wharf if there was a social reason either at lunch or after work.

Was WFH that important to you? I guess not? Or was the money that banking clients offered good enough that you would look past it?
