I keep hearing that PM roles are dead.. isn't it just IT PM jobs that have largely gone?

If this is in fact the case, can I ask what is the role title that fills in that of an erstwhile project manager?

For my part, I have recently started another PM contract and have attained my highest ever day rate. All of which is to say, I do not understand nor see the Death of a Project Manager.
