Anyone used Freelancer, Upwork etc recently?

A couple of years ago I got onto Elance and got a tiny bit of work done out in India. No problem. I intended to expand on this route to getting work done. However I landed a couple of contracts and didn't have time to do anything more.

I've now just looked at reviews for Freelancer and UpWork (the successor to Elance and ODesk) and they look pretty awful - mainly money be taken off accounts with a total lack of customer support.

Any recent experience of these or other freelance sites?

Most of the websites that offer small pieces of work that can be done remotely are flooded with people from the sub continent undercutting the rates, so I don't even bother looking at them.

I use People per hour when i have small pieces needing done outwith my ability... graphics or specialised bits.

If you can wade through the chaff, or are willing to engage there are a broad range of pitches available at loads of different price points and value add.
I've had very good results at excellent prices by our sub continent brethren. I've also had meh work done locally in the UK...

read the reviews and make your choice.
