I'm going to start running a travel company. Its going to be called "Valley Scroat Tours".

Its going to tour jobcentres in the south wales valleys (especially merthryr!) and give some of you an insight into exactly what goes on. You'll get first hand experience of people who are unemployable, have never worked, never intend to, do anything they can to play the system.

Then we'll visit they're houses and see the nice TVs they've got, see their stash of fags, and booze. Then we'll visit the tattoo parlour where they get all their tats done. All paid for by you the tax payer because they're never going to pay any tax themselves.

Might not be upset then when you hear about contractors who legitimately claim it for a few months and then go back to paying tax to pay for these scroats.
Oddly it doesn't bother me as I've met a few people like that in London, some other cities and towns. It's better to give them benefits then have them rioting, causing trouble and stealing from you. Some of them try the latter anyway though not all burglars are unemployed.

Unfortunately the major issue is that they have children. These children mostly have no hope though a few escape and get a job and stay out of trouble when they grow up.

I had similar. Gig was finalised at about 6pm the night before next day start (sorting contracts, reviews etc). So next day, first day at new client, I tried to phone the JC - I was supposed to be signing on that day. In the end, took me 3-4 day to get through (ever tried phoning a jobcentre!).

They canned my last two weeks and refused to pay. Reason - I should have told them I was starting. Basically, they said no-one ever sorts a job out to start next day so I was lying. Like you know.

And also, I didnt try hard enough to contact them next day. Even though I asked them how impressed they'd be if a new starter spend 2-3 hours of his first day on the phone.....

      They can be twats...

Please note the 16K figure being discussed was in the company AND savings.
It could be that the liabilities of that company could be more than 16K, in the worst instance.

As usual you are applying a perm style mentality to all of this.
I mean a high income relative to the average person (let's say the national median income)

don't think that money in business bank account for VAT, corp tax bills etc could be considered savings in this context

Or overwhelmed by the amount of people who take the p*ss?

Im sure its the same in other parts of the country too..... Limited jobs gives people the excuse not to bother and select benefits as the easy option. Why make an effort getting one of the few decent jobs around, when you could end up with something tulipe for minimum wage when you can do ok on benefits?

See the one about Merthyr? I was born and raised 12 miles from there (similar tulipehole council estate too). REALLY winds me up. Get off your arse....

They moan theres no jobs but its less than an hour to Cardiff from merthyr....

As for claiming JSA. ITs different. What they do is illegal. To claim JSA you must be looking for and available for works. Lots of people have no intention of doing this. Completely different to a contractor who legally claims because they are of course looking for work.

So, you are actually agreeing with me , that as a contractor 16K is not a lot to fall back on.

I nearly agree with you, I'd fully agree with you if, while in contract, you were paying full NI contributions on your income, but you don't, so I don't think you should be using the benefits system in between

It is a vicious circle. The girls got up the stick at a young age, get a council flat, claim benefits. They have kids. The kids start of bright enough, but then same thing happens. Get up the stick on purpose, free flat etc. It continues.

Got distant family members who was pleased they were going to be grandparents. They're teenage daughter was up the stick. No partner or anything, no job etc.

Their answer oh well thats the way it is these days..... Its the attitude they have.

Come back to me in 15 years (if you are actually still contracting by that time) .
