    Yes first contract. Maybe I'm going through the transition period from a permie - I guess I need to stick at it, providing they don't get rid of me (the politics are suggesting I'm not adding value - probably true, trying not to choke) what is NCOTBAC?

      NotCutOutToBeAContractor.

      If they've brought you in to fill a specific skill gap and you're spending your day getting involved in office politics then you're not adding value.

      Just focus on doing what they need you to do. And invoicing.

        If it is your first contract I would say stick with it for now. Remember you are just there to do your work and leave at the end of the day. There isn't any other loyalty or commitment beyond that like there is with perm. Whether the project is a can of worms or not sort of doesn't matter. The question is - are you enjoying your own role, day to day?

          In truth, no - it's soul destroying and a far cry from my skillset and what I *thought* I would be doing

            you might get bagged before you can quit then.

            They've made a mistake in hiring you, whether the role you were supposed to do has disappeared, or whatever.

            If you were a seasoned contractor with a warchest, you might happily hand in your notice.

            Have you had any discussion with them about the role being different?

              no discussion - didn't want to rock the boat. Considered contacting the agency, but again too chicken to rock the boat

                This is what you need to focus on, not the politics. If you haven't had an honest chat with them about the role having changed and whether you're the right fit, now's the time.

                When you say it's a far cry from your skillset, I've assumed that means that you've been asked to deliver something you've not done before, not that you're over-qualified for the role.

                    It's not an area I'm really that familiar with, but looking at job boards , if they hired the right person to do the role I'm doing, they would probably get them far cheaper. Surely we look for roles to learn or increase profitability? I'd have to somehow big this one up to increase profitability for future
