Home insurance covering LTD company laptop? Or other reccomendation

    Hi,

First post here but I've got a lot of useful info from this forum over the last year or so, so firstly thanks all for that

I'm looking to ensure my laptop is covered by insurance against theft and damage - I had assumed it was covered by my home insurance (British Gas), but then considered that it was purchased under in my limited company's name and according to someone I spoke to at British Gas, company laptops are not covered.

I didn't go into too much detail with the person I spoke to and of course there's a chance I would get away with it if I did make a claim, but would rather ensure that I am clearly covered - can anyone recommend a home insurance company which will cover a laptop purchased by one of the limited company of one of the inhabitants?

Or alternatively, are there any good value options for business laptop insurance (perhaps combined with other company insurance)? The options I have looked at and that I have seen recommended from old threads on here have seemed to work out quite expensive and I'm not sure if it's really worth it once factoring in excess etc.

    Thanks

Read the small print of your policy document carefully and don't take the person on the phones word for it.

Some insurers cover £5K of office equipment inside your house as standard even if it is for your small business.

However if you take the laptop out of the house then you need to get an add-on to one of your business insurances to cover it. (This is the same for your smartphone.) You can play around with their quoting calculators or just ask your insurer to quote for adding on the price of the electronic business items you want to have.

Also I wouldn't cover a laptop for damage unless you are clumsy as claiming will put up your premiums a lot.
